Feeding your puppy in a quiet place will avoid stress and aggressive behavior
during meals. The puppy may hurry to eat or want to protect his
food if there is too much activity and noise around it.
If, at birth, its range was large, there might be competition between
puppies to suckle. Maybe your puppy had to fight to be able to
feed.
Sit silently behind your dog, holding him on a leash. Your puppy must
make it a habit to have someone next to your bowl. Stay calm and do not move
while he is eating. Do not look at it either otherwise your puppy might think that
you challenge him.
After one or two weeks, start gently to get closer and caress him
while he is eating. But do not bother him too much. Reward him with a "good dog"
and a caress for letting you interrupt his meal. A few days later,
go to his bowl and touch his food. Do not forget to congratulate him.
Another way to avoid aggression is to divide your bowl into
two. To serve him the first part then, when finished, add the rest. So your puppy
will find that food is not lacking at home and therefore it is not necessary
to protect her because there will always be something for him.
